13 month old can eat medium-rare or medium cooked steak?

We are having steak tonight, probably medium-rare or medium. Can my 13 month old eat this or do I need to cut some of mine off and cook further for him?

Hmm. There is no way my 13-month old could eat steak without choking. How many teeth does he have?

No, a 13 month old baby cannot have steak of any kind and certainly not under-cooked. You would have to cut it into such tiny small pieces that it would basically be ground steak.

Yes, he can eat your steak, if he has enough teeth and the bites are small enough. Shouldn't need to cook it further.

I'm not a big fan of kids eating rare or medium rare beef. I was around during the mad cow days though so call me an ole fogie but well done for kids.

HUGE choking hazard.

Just not a good idea, OP.

Cooking to well done does not prevent mad cow disease.

I used to give my kids steak when they had a decent amount of teeth, but I pretty much completely pulverized it.

I had a 13 month that could eat a 4 oz. steak. And he loved it. But he'd been completely on table food since 9 months. How long has your child been on table food?

He eats ground beef and chicken and shrimp chopped up into basically large mince. I would cut the steak up into tiny bits of course! Hmm but maybe I'll stick to meatballs or something. Was just thinking steak for valentine's.

I disagree with most replies above.
Check out the book baby-led weaning, even though your kid is already 13m.
If you cut a long strip of medium rare or rare steak, your kid can chew and suck on the meat, and absorb great nutrients from it.
I would not cut it in small pieces.

I wouldn't do it.

We've been giving our DD fish cooked medium since she was around that age without any problems, but I wouldn't do red meat.

I did Baby Led Weaning and would never give a 13 month old steak in any size.
